I hear or see the word horizon and can’t help but think of the expression “expand one’s horizons”, it means learning and experiencing new things. Blogging is expanding my horizons – to different lives and loves. And I’m a part of that.
My local horizon is just that, local. I walk out of the house, turn right at the end of the road and there is front of me is my sea. My horizon. I walk down the hill, cross the road and I’m on the promenade. I can walk and walk and walk watching the sea meet the sky.
On a still day the lines are clear and distinct. I think I can see where one starts and one ends. On a blustery stormy day the horizon and my line of vision is blurred. sea spray and low clouds obscure the lines. Fuzzy up the horizon.
I switch my computer on, flick the screen of my oh so smart phone and I’m connected; expanding my horizons. Global horizons.

Wow, Claire. What a glorious place to live! Beautiful photos! xx
like anywhere Celia it has it’s ups and downs but I always believe you can find beauty if you look. Hope you have a fab week my friend!
So much gorgeous scenery.
thank you, I can literally spend hours looking at the sea, and everyday it’s different
Claire, that is quite a horizon! Garden in one direction, the open sea in the other. What could be better?
you’re right what could be better? Sometimes we forget ourselves don’t we!
The famous pebbles of Surrey … so slippery – and the dark blue ocean. I miss my days in Brighton just now, what a fantastic coastline that is ..
I live by the ocean too, but have to walk a for about 10-15 min … but I have Denmark on the other side, not much of a horizon *laughing
As old sea dog .. I have always said that there is only one ocean – only that we have given it different names depending on where it docks. Beautiful entry.
So true there is only one ocean, and we share it
Beautiful, beautiful shots – aren’t we lucky girls?!
We are 🙂
Great shots!
Your horizons are beautiful–in every direction! And your thoughts on expanding one’s horizons is really perfect, Claire. I love that. Wonderful photos. 🙂
I just think we are continually expanding our horizons, just that sometimes we aren’t aware of it!!! Hope you have a great weekend x
What beautiful horizons to greet you every day, Claire. Such a lovely place to call home.
It’s been home for a while John and we love it here
such fresh and breezy horizons!
Definitely breezy Christine
Lovely photos Claire. I bet the horizon was hard to see in the storm yesterday.
Hi Cathy, the worst of the storm was at night so the daytime sea still looked rough in the sunshine but nothing out of the ordinary
WOW! They are all great shots but especially seagull fascinated me. Thank you dear Claire, love, nia
Thank you dear Nia, wishing you a beautiful weekend !
ah the sea! something about salt air, the sound of waves, the birds over head that calls to us, over and over. thank you for these lovely shots and your interpretation of horizon (s).
On a good clear day we can sometimes see the coast of France from our beach 🙂
Lovely photos Claire
Beautiful pictures, oh how I miss loving near the ocean.
I’m glad that I can share my bit of sea with you Melissa. Hope you have a super weekend
You as well Claire! We are heading away for some peace and quiet.
How lovely, safe travels
Great selection, Claire! My favourite is the rooftops along the horizon.
thank you Terri, the angle is a bit unique looking with the sea to your back and only just seeing the beach huts
Oh Claire, these are Lovely!! I so appreciate an “assignment” and a weekly photo challenge is just that. I love that you didn’t stick to one or two or even several images but kept exploring the possibilities, the interpretations, nudging yourself to see it yet again in a new way. And OH! how wonderful to be so near the sea in all its ever-changing glory! Beautiful work, friend! xx
I’d love to see your interpretations Miss Spree! I wondered whether to stick to one image or use several so I appreciate your comments and thoughts. One of the reasons I fancy doing the challenges is that I can use it as an excuse to explore some of my old photos – especially the black and whites, but that means going back through the files………
Just beautiful pictures. I think I like the fourth one down best – the light glittering on the water and the dark jetty.
thank you it was a tricky shot as the sun was directly in front of us when taking that photo – but I could watch a twinkling sea for hours!
You are one lucky gal to have the ocean as your horizon Claire. I love your photos and am just a wee bit jealous as I am landlocked! Lovely.
thank you Teresa, I’d love a combination of mountains and sea – how naughty of me is that at not being content with what we have!
Love this post… especially the beautiful pictures. But I’m also experiencing the expansion of my horizons, and it is a subject definitely worth thinking about. Thanks.
I think our horizons are often shifting and moving and we don’t always realise – but in your circumstances they have definitely moved – wishing you well
Claire-I love your connection with the sea. It sounds like you live in a magical place!
What beautiful shots–how lucky you are to be so close to that. (And what a good excuse to get philosophical!)
Oh I guess I never realized how close you are to the sea – how wonderful! What a lovely interpretation of “horizon” Claire.
