As I get back into the post holiday swing of life how about sharing a photo of an autumn harvest – promenade style.
There are still plenty of pickings to be had in the garden, allotment and the greenhouse, but we’ll go and take a look at what’s happening another day.
For now let’s enjoy these chillies. We’ll certainly enjoy them over winter – topped (not tailed) and frozen whole. A simple harvest full of autumn colour
True autumn for me .. those colors .. but I’m a true autumn girl too. What did we use before we start using chili in our cooking???? – baked a chili beer bread today .. post will follow. Love it.
Chilli beer bread sounds perfect for autumn! And you are right what did we do before chillies? We led a mild and less colourful life !
I love the colors! I ended up with some little purple ones just like yours by accident– a stray seed in a packet of a variety called “fish pepper.”
It does sound like a stray seed Kate, the purple ones I grow are called Pretty in Purple, a pretty name
What a harvest you’ve got.. this is such a pretty photo, Claire. I can’t wait to see where these pretty hot chilies end up:) xx
Hi Smidge and thank you! They get used in everything – from pasta dishes to green curries and spicy noodles – hopefully they will keep me warm this winter (from the inside out 🙂 )
I love cooking with chilies. Those look delicious, not to mention fresh. I plan to plant some in my garden come spring.
That a lovely idea! I find them pretty easy to grow the trick is to start them early as they need a long season
These peppers look so colourful and joyous! A potpourri of peppers! I’m impressed!
I love your words “potpouri of peppers” 🙂
there was such a variety of shapes and colours .. so very beautiful! 🙂
Beautiful Autumn colors!
I thought so too !
Great colors! When I had a wood stove and an attic, I’d just string these and dry them. Now, too much moisture in the air, but freezing still works great.
I’ve started to dry a few but mostly we use them fresh, and as you say having a nice warm dry environment is perfect for drying Cindy!
I’m green…red, purple, and orange…with envy! Those chilis are sure to add a kick to some great dishes!
🙂 To be honest it wasn’t a bumber crop, this summer has been too cool, but at least I’ll have a flavour and warmth from summer during the winter to come !
That chillies basket certainly looks like autumn my friend, great harvest 🙂
Cheers
Choc Chip Uru
Thanks my friend, it’s a way for me to brighten up grey cloudy days – boo hoo !!
Lovely looking collection of chillies – and beautifully arranged, it’s great when fruit and veg look like a work of art as well as being tasty!
I guess I grow with my eyes as well as eat with them 🙂
Those purple chilies sure caught my eye… Very pretty, what are they?
Pretty is the way to describe them Tessa as they are called Pretty In Purple !!
Those look fab! They’ll certainly warm your cockles this winter. 😀
Cockle warming is needed today Misky, totally brrrr !!!
When the chilis come in, the colors are even better than the chili. Good to have you back, and I hope you enjoyed your time away.
Thank you Lulu, I had a fabulous break away, a real holiday! And I’m looking forward to getting back to blogging too 🙂
What a gorgeous photo, Claire! I could make a beautiful painting from this…
What a loevly idea Sharyn for a painting – it’s a shame I can’t pop them in the post to you!
The chillies from the allotment look very pretty. I suspect they will warm up many a winter evening! I never knew you could freeze chillies so thank you for the tip.
I learnt about freezing them when I met my partner, and was converted straight away…. to freezing the chillies and to him 🙂
Those are fantastic colors!
Thanks Yummy !
Claire, you temptress! I cannot wait to see what else you have in store for us, both with these chilis and with the rest of your Autumn harvest.
🙂 Morning John! It’s getting cool, no cold here now so I’ll need all the warming food I can get! I’m sure some will be used in spaghetti e olio !
Gorgeous chillies. I don’t cook with them nearly enough! I’m sure you’ll be making plenty of delicious meals out of them!!!
Thank you! I love getting them out of the freezer and deciding which type to use for that nights meal – they have such different flavours, the one thing I don’t know yet is how hot they are !! 🙂
What a beautifully cheery image! Love the promise of delicious meals made with them.
It is like a promise of good food to come isn’t it !
Your pepper harvest looks fantastic. I still have quite a bountiful harvest too! One of my best go-to meals for a busy weeknight is to fry or grill a bunch of peppers and onions, then eat them on top of sausage……Italian……apple gruyere…..cajun…..hot links…..linguica…..you name it.
It’s 8am in the morning and I’m hungry for your evening meal!! That really does sound like a greta and easy meal to make – and never ending variety too !
Love the photo! I always forget – peppers can just go in the freezer, with no Fancy Stuff…
The lack of fancy stuff makes them winners – no pickling, water baths…..just pick and wash and freeze Marie 🙂
Your peppers are beautiful!
Thank you Inger, I’m wondering ho whot they will be…….
Very nice Claire! They are so colorful and pretty 🙂
I believe we eat with our eyes Giovanna 🙂 thank you!
just getting to be summer here and look at all the things I can grow 🙂
Get the seeds sown Maureen, and you’ll have a wonderful spicy treat come autumn 🙂
Great picture! Love those colors! We have some jalapeno peppers still growing in our garden, but they’re the last of the peppers.
How lovely, I want to grow Jalapeno peppers next year, such a distinct flavour, in fact thinking about it now I want to try and pickle them 🙂
How wonderful that you still have something tasty from the garden! The chiles look wonderful. I’m sure you’ll do something special with them. 🙂
Thank you Debra, it’s a blast of colour on a cold cloudy day !!
Gorgeous shot! (How lucky that you’ve got such goodies!)
Thanks! I deliberately try and grow different varieties, I love colour in my life 🙂
beautiful.. such a lively collection of colours! c
Thanks Celi, and of course chillies make me think of curries, another classic autumn food 🙂
funny you should mention that as I am making a lamb curry on the wood stove today! c
Perfect timing and lamb curry is THE BEST. I’m just writing a post about curry powder so it’s on my mind……
Lovely autumn colors. Grew the purple variety one year, they were like pearls hanging in the garden.
What a beautiful way to describe them – pearls, I;ll think of them like that in future, thank you Norma !
No chilies this year, so I will enjoy looking at yours! Such lovely color! When I do have them, my favorite are the Long Greens, or Anaheim chilies. I roast them over coals, wrap them in a cloth to steam, and when cooled they are pealed and then frozen whole. I use them in all my Mexican dishes over the winter. ~ Lynda
I’ve heard of Anaheim before but don’t think I’ve ever tried them, the way you cook them Lynda sounds totally delicious !
Oh how pretty your peppers Claire! Looks to me like this photo deserves to be about poster size and hanging in the kitchen! x
You are so kind!! I was thinking today I might do a 2012 round up of favourite photos and recipes – maybe the chillies will make the final cut 🙂
a great idea, and by all means, even though competition is stiff, these should make the cut!
