French Breakfast

It’s the weekend and as usual I had great plans. Emphasis is on the past tense here.

The plan was to get up bright and early and go and spend the morning on the allotment, getting on top of all the jobs that need doing – watering the greenhouse, planting out some winter greens and salads, erecting a net cage for the Brassicas, weeding. You name it, it needs doing.

But I woke up late and it was raining.

So a gentle morning, listening to some music, drinking coffee and eating home cooked croissants. Not homemade. But home cooked. We buy them from a wholesaler, a huge bag of them, frozen and ready to cook.

All you need to do is heat the oven, chuck ’em in,

put the coffee on,

and get out the fig jam

And voila, a French breakfast.

With thanks to Marie-Claire’s homemade Fig Jam. Life wouldn’t be as rich without it.
